  • It's visible — a little. Though small, the body does sit behind the ear and can be seen on close inspection. For those chasing total invisibility, this is the dealbreaker.

  • It can clash with glasses or masks. Some people with glasses find the behind-the-ear space a little crowded.

  • You must remember to charge it. Forget one night, and you may be caught short — though a quick top-up usually gives hours of use, and this is rarely a real problem in practice.

  • More technology, more to go wrong? More features mean more that could theoretically need support — though modern RICs are very reliable.

  • Microphone sits outside the ear, so the pinna's natural direction-finding is slightly less involved than with a deep CIC (clever processing compensates well, but purists notice).
